Director IDs have recently been introduced to Australia to help prevent the use of false or fraudulent director identities.

A director identifier number (Director ID) is a director’s unique identifier allocated to a director for life.

If you are an Australian director – even foreign director – or want to become one, and don’t have your director ID yet, you should apply now.

When you must apply for your Director ID depends on the date your become a director:

Date you become a director                            Deadline to apply

• On or before 31 Oct 2021                         By 30 Nov 2022
• Between 1 Nov 2021 – 4 Apr 2022         Within 28 days of appointment
• From 5 Apr 2022                                        Before appointment

How to apply for your Director ID

The fastest way to apply is online (application can also be done by phone or by mail)

• Step 1: Set up myGovID
  myGovID an app for smart device that let you prove who you are and log in to a range of government online services, including myGov.

• Step 2: Gather your documents
  Your Tax File Number (TFN); your residential address as held by the ATO, and information from two documents to verify your identity
